Trapped in the Dark by Vaxillus Trapped in the Dark by Vaxillus
A little fan art for what will probably be my favorite game of 2011, Dark Souls. I did this a while ago, so there wasn't as much reference as I would have liked for some of the characters, especially the pyromancer in back (only about a second of footage in one of the trailers). I'm happy enough with it though, at least for the time I spent on it.

Yeah, I'm still playing through it. Just started on the new DLC, getting beat down pretty bad.

There's a surprising lack of dark souls art on here,
But the few I stumble upon are usually very nice, not unlike this one.

Thanks Mattismen! I'm actually meaning to revisit this one and tidy it up since I don't feel it's one of my better pieces. I've gotten a few favorites of it though, so I don't want to take it off and disappoint anyone.

Awesome picture, very much represents the [jolly] co-operation of the game. Oh, and side note... TARKUS!!!

Thanks! I had to do it based only on some very low res screenshots since the game was still far from release at the time. The pyromancer in the back was based off a pixelated still from the trailer and pretty much nothing else (nobody even knew what class it was back then).

Yeah, that makes sense. Probably some beta images then, or alpha, possibly beta. I kinda wonder how bigger the next Souls game would be. O.O Be awesome if it was bigger than the world of Skyrim [size wize, seeing as how they already have plenty of areas in the lore already to explore].

I'm not sure it'll ever get quite that big. Skyrim has a lot of empty space which is mostly just there to make the world feel expansive. The Souls series always seems to try and make every area meaningful and interesting. Also the developers usually seem to go for that claustrophobic feel, so that limits how much of this space they'd want to add. We'll see though, that's just my thoughts.

True, though one thing that might need to be fixed is the lag in certain places. Blighttown seems to lag aweful for me for some reason, though I think it's cause of all the lights.

Yeah, that was a common problem. I heard the patch was supposed to improve it a bit, but didn't fix it all the way. I think that was in part because of the draw distance. You could see all the way down into the swamp, so it was rendering one hell of a lot of polygons. From Software is still a small company and doesn't really have the resources to tighten their engine up to the level of a lot of other games.

True, true. I get it in New Londo ruins too, but that's cause it's a massive area with water overlaying who knows how much and how many different items; like the hundreds of bodies piled up against the walls from the flood when they tried escaping.

"Okay, which one of us wants to go first? C'mon Donny, you go."
"I went last time. I got a spike rammed through the side of my waist. I say Burt can go."
"Screw you, It's YOUR turn."
"Don't worry I've got your back."
"You said that so many times..."

Pretty much my sentiments about playing the game exactly. Rampant death everywhere.

Thanks! I've been wanting to experiment a bit more with lighting schemes, but a lot of my stuff so far has just been design shots so I rarely get a chance.
